I'm Gross

I have officially been diagnosed with Strep Throat. I had a sore throat a few days ago but it wasn't that bad and I heard that was going around anyway. Well, I felt better the next day and carried on my merry way. Yesterday I woke up and my throat was a little sore again, but what I really noticed were my glands. They were SO swollen and my throat felt thick. So I get to work and take a look in the mirror and what do I see......

That's right, a big pus pocket! I know, I am sick (in more ways than one) and I apologize for those of you with weak stomachs, you may now click off of my blog. ;) Anyway, I went to the Dr and got my diagnosis and was given an antibiotic.

I don't get sick that often and tend to get bored when I have to stay home all day. That is usually when I come up with silly ideas like taking pictures of my throat. My fever may be making me a little delirious as well. So for those I have been in contact with within the last few days, I am sorry if you get infected. This especially goes out to my co-workers (Brooke, I love you!).

Sir Otis Pugmire

My parents have been talking about getting a dog for quite some time now but had all this criteria about what the dog should be like. Needless to say, it is hard to find something that meets ALL of your criteria. Well my dad finally found something they could live with so I present to you Otis Pugmire!

He is super cute, cuddly, playful, and makes the funniest noises! He is a big snorter and snorer and because his nose is so short makes a huge mess when he drinks water! Welcome to the family Otis!

This is kind of gross but the other day I noticed 2 ants in my bathroom. Now I know from past experience in a ghetto apartment that when there is 1 ant, there are going to be a lot more to follow. So even though I only saw 2, I decided to buy some ant bait. This bait is food to the ants and they take it and carry it back to the nest and it poisons the whole nest. This gets rid of the ants in like 2 days and worked really well before. So I put the bait traps down where I saw the ants and when I woke up this morning, this is what I found.........

SOOOOOOOO gross! The good thing is that the traps work so good, they should be gone by the time I get home today. The bad thing is that I REALLY hate ants! I would rather those be a bunch of spider's than ants. I have a serious aversion to them! Anyway that is my story and I have the heebie jeebies now!

Greetings!

I have a weird obsession with greeting cards. Not just any greeting cards. Greeeting cards that are funny. To me. Take for instance this one....

The Outside

The Inside

Hilarious! And this one......

Seriously funny! So I am always on the look out for new and funny cards. I can spend hours browsing through cards! I make it my mission to give them to my loved ones for all their special occasions. There was no point to this blog other than it is my sweet sister's and my sassy friend's birthday today and I was filling out their cards and laughing.

So happy birthday Celeste! You fight that age with your mask of cooling gell!

As I said this morning, you are one step closer to being the cougar of every man's dream!

Happy Birthday to you sister o' mine! (You look a little stoned in this picture) You already ARE the cougar of every man's dreams!

Holy Crap!

I have been a little busy lately with my mom and working a lot due to having someone fired at work, so my blog is suffering a little. I had a minute to sit down and relax last night and so I turned on TLC which sometimes has really interesting stories. This is what I found.......

Holy Crap is an understatement! This is a half man, half tree. He has some sort of autoimmune problem that caused a wart virus to go crazy. These warts continue to spread across his body and his hands and feet have started growing ROOTS like a tree.

Whoa! A dermatologist from Maryland came out to see if he could be saved and apparently is going to start some sort of oral treatment that should cause the warts to stop growing as well as get rid of some of the ones he already has. The roots on his hands and feet can actually be sawed off (can anyone say ewwww!) I just sat there shocked and amazed. He apparently has to work pretty much as a circus freak in order to get money to feed his family. He has 2 kids and his wife left him when he started growing the warts. He has trouble eating on his own as well as walking to far. It is not genetic and actually he is probably the only one in the whole world with this exact disorder. So I feel a little better about all the stress I have been under, after all I am only built like a tree, not an actual tree. I guess I will stopped being embarrassed my warts!

On a side note, did anyone else feel the earthquake this morning? My bed hasn't rocked that hard in years!

Mangoat Salad ;)

I know I haven't been good at posting yummy, healthy recipes when I find them, but I made one tonight that was good so I thought I would post it. I made up this salad so figured I could name it myself, hence the title of this post! Tee-hee!

Any kind of lettuce you like (I used a mix of romaine, iceberg, and green leaf)
1 can Garbanzo beans
Mango chunks (I used frozen and defrosted them cuz it's cheaper than fresh!)
Goat Cheese (I used the kind seasoned with basil and sun dried tomatoes)
Garlic (I used 4 cloves, but I LOVE garlic)
EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil)

Mince the garlic, add to the beans, add a couple tblsp of EVOO. Stir together until evenly coated and spread over a foil covered cookie sheet. Broil until the beans and garlic start to get a crispy brown color. Take out of oven and let cool (doesn't have to be completely cool). Put your lettuce in a bowl and add your mango chunks, crumble the goat cheese in, and add your beans. Drizzle the following dressing over the top.

I didn't measure this so just use your best judgment. I just added a few tblsp of Mustard, added some balsamic vinegar, then some EVOO. I can't take credit for the dressing, I saw Rachel Ray make it and she may have used a fancy mustard but I just used plain old yellow.

So there you have it. It was delicious and really satisfying for a salad. The beans really fill you up and give you your protein so you don't need meat! I am sure you could add chicken though if you have guys you cook for that refuse to eat a meal that doesn't involve meat! Enjoy!

Why I'm a BBW

Today I decided I was going to get back on track with my eating. Not that I have been eating all that horrible but any deviance from ALL healthy food for me, makes it impossible for me to lose weight. Yes I will blame it on my metabolism. So my healthy diet includes fruits, vegetables, whole wheat, flax, soy products, pickles, and foods with omega fats. I also decided to add up the cost of my food for a week eating this way as well as what it would cost me to do what I usually do which is cereal for breakfast, soup for lunch, and depending on what I have in the house, a cheap dinner. So eating cheap for a week typically cost's me around $25 to $30 dollars. I went to the grocery store armed with a list of all the healthy foods I was going to eat this week and do you know what my total was? $60 dollars!!!!!! That is DOUBLE my usual food bill. Now I know a lot of you are thinking that is a cheap grocery bill for a week, but you have to remember I am only feeding MYSELF! Not a family of 4! So this is the reason I am a big, beautiful woman! It is not my aversion to structured exercise or that I really like pastries. It is that I simply can't afford to be thin! I am ok with that. So are these guys.

Long week, little bed

Do you ever have weeks that seem to last a lifetime? For some reason this week has been sooo long for me! So today after work, the only thing I wanted to do was go home, put on my jams and lay right here on this bed. So, that is what I did. I started off my laze fest with the Food Network channel and day dreamed about the great chef I could become if I could only afford Truffle Oil and Mascarpone Cheese. I then moved on to a really horrible episode of Extreme Makeover. Again, if I could afford it, I could have the Brazilian butt of my dreams! Then I was excited to see that a new (for me) episode of Rock of Love was on.

That's right, Brett Michaels at his finest. Skanks not at theirs! I really think he is going to find true love this time! I then decided I needed to eat some dinner and because I am being lazy, that means I am not cooking a thing. So I had an Asian Pear, some carrots, and handfuls of Special K right out of the box. Trust me, I would have eaten something fattening and disgusting if it hadn't required I get dressed and leave my apartment. Tonight I hope I can kick back to a really good Lifetime movie about a sorority girl killing her roommate or a mother having her baby switched at birth. Now THAT'S good T.V. So I have put my word LIVE on hold for the night and am just going to BE. At least in a semi-comatose state.

Yet another reason to hate ducks!

Last night Celeste and I decided to go on a roomate date (again, we are not lesbians) to dinner and a movie. We were walking out to her truck when I slipped on some ice (and probably duck poo) and fell down. Not only did I fall down but my entire hand and wrist went right into this puddle. Do you know what lies in these puddles all day? Ducks. Do you know what ducks do when they sit in puddles? Poo. So there I am with my hand in duck poo water and all I can do is laugh. Which in turn makes Celeste laugh. Normally if I fell I would stand up, brush it off and move on. I couldn't stand the thought of having poo on me though, so I had to run back in, wash my hands, AND change my whole outfit because my sweater sleeve and the knees of my jeans were soaking wet with poo water. So there you have it. I fell. I landed in duck poo. Let's move on.

Part Deux!

Ok the second posting of my trip starts off with the Pana 'ewa Zoo which was so beautiful and FREE!

This is Namaste and we were able to watch him eat chickens whole!

This Peacock was trying to get the ladies to notice him by shaking his tail feathers! I had a date that did that once.....

I love this picture because the pig looks like it is smiling!

There are also a lot of wild pigs running around Hawaii and I was able to get a shot of some on the road by Amy's house.

I couldn't believe how beautiful the zoo was and it was one of the neatest I have seen! I think the girls enjoyed themselves as well!

This is the Onekahakaha beach otherwise known as the kids beach. The ocean lies just beyond the rock wall and it is a shallow body of water that the kids can play in as long as the tide is down. I saw a fish there that swims sideways with it's eye looking up and it looks just like the sand. It made me a little oooky that I might step on one so I had to walk back closer to the shore!

That's right, I'm in swimsuit.

Lyla didn't mind getting her feet wet, but that was pretty much the limit!

Do you thinks Avery likes it? I know exactly how she felt....Awwwwww!

Here is a picture of a surfer, just because it's hot!

This is what I believe is called a Banyan tree and it is now among one of my favorites!

These next few are just random pic's that make me want to inhale salty ocean air!

Don't ask me why, I just thought it was funny ;)

Ok, so that is all for today. I should be able to wrap this up tomorrow and then we can all get back to everyday life!
